Obama wants more play money before the election

February 29, 2012

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that some scale of QE3 has been “priced in”, but it is clear that the markets are now thoroughly addicted to credible promises of cheap, never-ending liquidity; or, as they would tell you in AA meetings, one sip is too much and one trillion sips are never enough. The problem for them now is that there is very little credibility left underlying the Fed’s “promises”, thanks to the complete joke of a jobs report produced by the incumbent politicians guiding the BLS.

With unemployment data suddenly showing massive improvement above expectations last month (and the non-manufacturing ISM reporting price increases across several commodities), the U.S. government has placed itself back in a position where there is simply no justification for any monetary easing. The Administration will continue to goose any and all economic data it can get its hands on going into elections, which will make it that much more difficult for the Fed to act, which, in turn, will make it very difficult for the market to keep up its appearances.

Legendary performer Davy Jones dead at 66

February 29, 2012

“The Monkees only happened because of Davy Jones, plain and simple. The show was built around him,” said Eric Lefcowitz, author of “Monkee Business: The Revolutionary Made-for-TV Band” (Retrofuture Products), in a 2011 Tribune interview. “Davy had been a pro since basically being a small boy. He’s a pure entertainer. He seems to have this almost innate ability to entertain people and put across a winning image that’s very family-oriented.”

Ashton Kutcher has a crush on Halle Berry

February 29, 2012

Fresh from his split with DEMI MOORE, ASHTON KUTCHER is hot on the stiletto heels of yet another cougar HALLE BERRY.

And friends say that the 34-year-old “Two and a Half Men” star isn’t put off by the fact that Halle, 45, is already in a committed relationship.

“Ashton has known Halle for quite a while, and I’ve heard him say more than once, ‘Man, if I was single…’ ” recalled one pal. “Now that he is single again, he’d give his eyeteeth to act on his crush.”

Obama throws non-union auto workers under the bus

February 29, 2012

The White House fairy tale about the Happily Ever After Auto Bailout is missing a crucial, bloody page. While President Obama bragged about “standing by American workers” at a rowdy United Auto Workers meeting Tuesday, he failed to acknowledge how the Chicago-style deal threw tens of thousands of nonunion autoworkers under the bus.

In a campaign pep rally/sermon billed as a “policy speech,” Obama nearly broke his arm patting himself on the back for placing his “bets” (read: our money) on the $85 billion federal auto industry rescue. “Three years later,” he crowed, “that bet is paying off for America.” Big Labor brass cheered Obama’s citation of GM’s “highest profits in its 100-year history” as the room filled with militant UAW chants of “union made.”

“Union made” — but who paid? Scoffing at the criticism that his bailout was a massive union payoff, Obama countered that all workers sacrificed to save the auto industry. “Retirees saw a reduction in the health care benefits they had earned,” Obama told the congregation, er, crowd. “Many of you saw hours reduced,” he sympathized, “or pay and wages scaled back.”

Residents in northern Namibia, on the southwest coast of Africa, have reported being terrorized by a bizarre dog-pig hybrid creature. The animal is said to be mostly white and unlike anything the villagers have ever seen, with a doglike head and the broad, round, nearly hairless back and shoulders of a giant pig. The beast was spotted chasing and attacking dogs, goats and other domestic animals in this arid region not far from the Kalahari desert.

Battle over Whitney Houston’s fortune

February 29, 2012

Whitney Houston died nearly broke, but with millions of dollars starting to pour into her estate, sources predict an ugly family feud will erupt.

“It’s sad to say, but Whitney is worth more dead than alive,” a close source said. “Her career had been in the toilet for years, but in the wake of her death her music is selling through the roof.”

Brand management expert Grant Cardone added: “Whitney’s ‘brand’ could be sold right now for $100 million. The buyer could then develop movies, plays, Cirque du Soleil-type shows and even a theme park using her name. In the end, Whitney could be a billion-dollar brand!”
