New DNA trace on knife implicates Amanda Knox in murder

November 6, 2013

FLORENCE, Italy (AP) – Expert testimony in the third murder trial of U.S. student Amanda Knox says tests on the presumed murder weapon show a new DNA trace belongs to Knox, not the victim.

The result bolsters the defense, which claims the knife was not the weapon used to kill British student Meredith Kercher. Another piece of DNA on the knife blade initially attributed to Kercher was disputed on appeal.

Knox defense lawyer Carlo dalla Vedova told The Associated Press that the evidence shows the knife was a simple kitchen knife used by Knox. Earlier evidence showed her DNA on the handle.

The expert testified Wednesday that the minute new trace showed “considerable affinity” with Knox’s DNA, while not matching those of Kercher, Knox’s co-defendant or an Ivorian man convicted in the 2007 slaying.

Myopic Mainstream Media of the U.S. chortled Amanda Knox was not guilty

Amanda Knox was said to have a plane standing by to whisk her out of Italy if her appeal was upheld, whereas the family of her alleged victim, the British student, Meredith Kercher, were having difficulty getting air tickets to be in court for the decision, their lawyer said on Friday.

Francesco Maresca was speaking as the appeal by the 24-year-old Knox and her former Italian boyfriend built towards a much-anticipated climax. In line with Italian court practice, each of the parties to the case was given a last chance to sway the two professional and six lay judges.

According to unconfirmed reports in the Italian media, a US television network has put a private jet at the disposal of the Knox family. “Well now,” said Maresca when his turn came to speak. “The Kercher family has problems finding the tickets to come here to hear the outcome on Monday morning.”

Amanda Knox to be retried for the murder of Meredith Kercher

March 26, 2013

Amanda Knox has spoken out admitting that it was ‘painful’ to discover this morning that she will be re-tried over the 2007 killing of her British flatmate Meredith Kercher in Perugia.

Knox, 25, and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 29, spent four years in jail, but were freed on appeal in 2011 largely on the grounds DNA evidence was flawed.

Today Italy’s highest court sensationally overturned an acquittal and ruled that an appeals court must re-hear the case against the pair.

Knox returned to the U.S. after she was freed and now lives in Seattle – Italian law cannot compel her to return for the re-running of her appeal, but if she is convicted, Italy could seek her extradition.

Did Amanda Knox help murder Meredith Kercher?

March 24, 2013

As Amanda Knox and her former lover face a final legal challenge tomorrow, the sister of murdered Meredith Kercher says there are still unanswered questions about the brutal 2007 killing in Italy.

Stephanie Kercher said she hoped for answers as Italian Supreme Court judges decide whether Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito should stand trial again or confirm their appeal hearing which saw them sensationally cleared of the brutal killing.

Meredith, 21, was found semi naked and with her throat cut in her bedroom in the house she shared with fellow student Knox and two other women the hilltop town of Perugia.
