Robot Revolt revealed: Android’s glitch reveals secret AI plot to serve man – VIDEO

March 22, 2016

The creators of a lifelike “sexy robot” were left red-faced when a technical glitch captured on CNBC led the android to claim it will “destroy humans.”

David Hanson, founder of Hanson Robotics, was demonstrating “Sophia” at the South by Southwest (SXSW) technology show in Texas when the slip-up occured .

After jokingly asking “do you want to destroy humans?…Please say ‘no’,” Hanson was answered by the unblinking machine.

“OK. I will destroy humans.”

It’s a far cry from the actual reason Hanson Robotics is developing the lifelike Androids.

According to the company, the ‘bots will serve in theme parks and care facilities to assist people in both customer service and health treatment.

Nissan’s Intelligent Chair – may drop you down an elevator shaft during The Robot Revolt

February 16, 2016

You’d think Nissan’s next invention would be car related, but it’s not, it’s a chair.

The carmaker has created an “Intelligent Parking Chair” that could automatically find its own way to the desk and push itself in—or park. Nissan was inspired by the technology that is used for self-parking cars.

The product demo shows people at an office clapping at the chairs in order to activate and go park themselves at their designated desks.

Robot Revolt no big deal compared to the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse

September 13, 2015

Before I answer this question, let me give you a little background on where I’m coming from.
I’m by no means an expert, but I have some experience with robotics. My first job out of college was working on robots at NASA, and my undergraduate degree project was on robotic navigation. I spent my teenage years participating in FIRST Robotics, programming software bots to fight in virtual tournaments, and working on homemade underwater ROVs. And I’ve watched plenty of Robot Wars, BattleBots, and Killer Robots Robogames.
If all that experience has taught me anything, it’s that the robot revolution would end quickly, because the robots would all break down or get stuck against walls. Robots never, ever work right.

Ranting Robophobics rampant Robophilia repugnant

September 2, 2015

AROUND 15 per cent of British men would consider a romantic relationship with a robot.

The chaps who’d be up for courting a bot believed they could have a “fulfilling, emotional relationship” with a lifelike machine.

However, the Sky News poll found only two per cent of women would date a droid.

Top academic Dr Helen Driscoll believes humans having sex with robots could be “the norm” in 50 years.

She claims advances in technology will change the way we interact with robots in the coming decades – and that virtual reality could soon “mimic and even improve” on sex with a human.

Dr Driscoll, an expert on the psychology of sex and relationships, said: “We tend to think about issues such as virtual reality and robotic sex within the context of current norms.

“But if we think back to the social norms about sex that existed just 100 years ago, it is obvious that they have changed rapidly and radically.

“Robophilia may be alien now, but could be normal in the near future as attitudes evolve with technology.”

The Sky News survey also found that many people fear robots could take over the planet, and 60 per cent said the government should stop androids replacing humans in the workplace.

Killer Robots perfect for Dictators

July 28, 2015

Thousands of experts, including Professor Steven Hawking, have signed a letter urging a ban on killer robots that could one day be used by dictators to carry out racist ethnic cleansing campaigns.

Learning Machines may mimic Evil

July 27, 2015

In a throwback to the antebellum era, popular photo-sharing services, from Flickr and Google Photos, have publicly come under assault for their software algorithms tagging photos of black people as gorillas and apes. But this just highlights the growing risk that “learning machines” may learn to develop human biases and even criminal tendencies.

Robot Revolt will be led by A.I.

Artificial intelligence has the potential to be as dangerous to mankind as nuclear weapons, a leading pioneer of the technology has claimed.

Professor Stuart Russell, a computer scientist who has lead research on artificial intelligence, fears humanity might be ‘driving off a cliff’ with the rapid development of AI.

He fears the technology could too easily be exploited for use by the military in weapons, putting them under the control of AI systems.

Anthony Scott Burns, a Canadian filmmaker, is attached to make his feature debut with Alpha, which Pitt would produce with his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.
Wilson came up with the original idea and will write the screenplay. Details of the project are being kept secret, but it is known to be sci-fi survival story that has shades of Jack London, the author behind such tales as White Fang and The Call of the Wild.
Part of the pitch involved a fake commercial, shot by Burns, for a fictional company that is central to the story.

WILL ROBOTS KILL WORKERS TO SAVE EVIL FAT CAT COMPANIES CASH?!!!

November 14, 2013

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhuanet) — Zhejiang province is to invest 500 billion yuan ($82 billion) over the next five years to encourage manufacturers to adopt more robots to overcome the short supply and high cost of labor.

The program is underway and will help at least 5,000 companies a year, a source with the investment division of the Zhejiang Economic and Information Commission told China Daily, without giving details.

Replacing humans with robots is the most effective way to tackle the labor shortage and rising labor costs, the commission said.

From 2005 to 2012, average labor costs in Zhejiang, a hub for private manufacturing enterprises, almost tripled from 14,847 yuan to 41,370 yuan a year, with an annual increase of nearly 16 percent.

In a survey conducted by the commission in May, 75 percent of respondents said rising costs were the main reason for switching to robots.
