In her role as heroic fantasy warrior Xena in the hit 90s adventure series Xena: Warrior Princess, Lucy Lawless is used to battling evil in all its shapes and forms.

Now the 43-year-old actress has proved she can be equally fearless in real life – scaling a 174ft tower after climbing aboard an oil-drilling ship as part of a Greenpeace protest.

The dauntless environmentalist boarded the vessel Noble Discoverer in the port of Taranaki on New Zealand’s North Island in a bid to stop it setting off on an Arctic drilling expedition.
