An on board camera on a lorry shows the white Peugeot 308 scraping between it and an oncoming Vauxhall Vectra after the mistimed manoeuvre nearly led to a head-on crash.
The hatchback pulls over after the close shave, on a country road in South Yorkshire, which could have ended in tragedy.
The footage has now emerged after it was passed onto the camera maker, SmartWitness.
