“Riddick” is seeing light at the box office.
The sci-fi thriller starring Vin Diesel as an intergalactic criminal with built-in night vision debuted in first place with $18.7 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. “Riddick” is the third installment in the series, following the $11.6 million debut of 2000’s “Pitch Black” and the $24.3 million launch of 2004’s “The Chronicles of Riddick.”
The photo, showing Vin Diesel as Ridick siting on a throne, is captioned: “It has been 9 years since The Chronicles of Riddick was released… all along I knew I would eventually have to return to that dark place, the mind of an Alpha Furyan…”
Riddick, which was also produced by Vin Diesel, will hit theaters and IMAX screens on September 6.
VIN Diesel and Paul Walker rev up the engines for some high-speed action in the new trailer for Fast & Furious 6.
The movie sees old enemies DEA Agent Hobbs – played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – and Vin’s Dom joining forces to defeat a European criminal gang.
The new team – who pull off the kind of audacious petrol-head stunts usually reserved for Dom’s crew – is led by mastermind Owen Shaw (Luke Evans).
And the former villain agrees to help Hobbs when he discovers lost love Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), who he believed was dead, is on the run with them.
