A Nitro WV man shot a woman
delivering Chinese food
to an apartment near his
residence Friday,
police said,

Arthur Jackson Byrd III,
33,
is charged with malicious
wounding after he allegedly
shot the woman in the back
of her head with a 12-gauge
shotgun around 9:30 p.m.
Friday.
According to a criminal
complaint filed in Kanawha
County Magistrate Court,
the victim,
Min Lin,
was delivering food to an
apartment on the 1200 block
of Main Avenue near Byrd’s
when she was shot.

A news release from the
Nitro Police Department s
aid Lin was shot in the
back of the head.
“The woman’s injuries are
not believed to be life
threatening,”
police said in the news release,
adding that the motive
is unclear.
“She refused to be medically
transported by paramedics,
despite bleeding
from the head.”
Police found Byrd holding
a gun in the parking lot of
his apartment building,
according to the criminal
complaint.
He told police
“he fired a shotgun at
a person whom he believed
to have forced entry
into his home.”
He also told them
that earlier in the day,
he had drunk beer,
taken prescription narcotics
and smoked marijuana laced
with methamphetamines
according to the complaint.
