The problem in Chicago isn’t a lack of gun laws but a lack of enforcement of existing gun laws

July 8, 2014

After a violent holiday weekend during which 11 people were killed and more than 60 others were wounded in shootings — two of the deaths and five of the woundings at the hands of police officers — Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday that the city’s gun sentencing laws aren’t strict enough to help police stem city violence.

“It all comes down to these guns: there’s too many guns coming in and too little punishment going out,” McCarthy said in a Monday press conference.

Chicago dead last at enforcing existing gun laws

The eyes of the city were on Chicago Public Schools “Safe Passage” routes Monday morning as a 28-year-old man was shot along one of the routes and a 14-year-old boy was shot to death near another one, the day before school starts.

The 14-year-old boy was shot and killed within a block of a welcoming elementary school, Melody Stem School , 3937 W. Wilcox. It’s at least the third fatal shooting along or near a Safe Passage route since mid-August.

Justice for Darryl Green

July 14, 2013

On Thursday, July 11, police discovered the rotting body of 17-year-old Darryl Green, a black child from the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Green’s body was found behind a boarded-up house in the 6500-block of South Damen, face down on basement stairs. The body was so badly decomposed that originally, local news reports suggested that he had died of blunt force trauma. On Friday, an autopsy showed he had been shot to death. Relatives reported that Green had refused to join a gang at school.

NBC News caught for 6th time selectively editing video for the Liberal Left

May 5, 2013

I had hoped this nonsense would end with the reign of Steve Capus, but once again we have NBC News forced to apologize for yet-another dishonest edit meant to push the left’s agenda.
Thanks to NRO’s Andrew Johnson, we learned that on Friday MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts used selective clips from a speech by Vice President Joe Biden to make it look as though Biden was making a push for gun control. Biden’s speech had nothing to do with guns.

NBC won’t cover Chicago’s refusal to enforce gun laws

March 26, 2013

During a March 24 appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre explained that Chicago is big on gun control, small on enforcement of existing gun laws–and he asked why NBC News won’t cover this.
In fact, LaPierre told David Gregory that Syracuse University’s track data on enforcement of federal gun laws in 2012 shows that “out of 90 jurisdictions in the country, [Chicago] ranked 90th.”
This substantiates claims the NRA has been making for years. Namely, that the problem isn’t a lack of gun laws but a lack of enforcement of existing gun laws.
LaPierre then asked Gregory:
Why doesn’t NBC News start with, “Shocking news on Chicago. Of all the jurisdictions in the country Chicago is dead last on enforcement of federal gun laws?” Why doesn’t the national press corps, with they’re sitting there with Jay Carney and the President and the Vice President, why don’t they say, “Why is Chicago dead last in enforcement of gun laws against gangs with guns, felons with guns, [and] drug dealers with guns?”
To this, Gregory’s meager response was: “And you support those as felonies, being charged as felonies?”
LaPierre responded that the NRA absolutely does. And not only that, he wants those who are charged with felonies to be taken off the street so they can’t keep committing crimes for which law-abiding citizens are being blamed.
Said LaPierre: “If you’re the President and the Vice President, and the Attorney General, and your job is to enforce these laws against…drug dealers, gangs, and felons that are walking around with guns in the street, and you don’t do it? [Then] you bear some responsibility. It is a tragedy.”
