Two alarming fads are threatening young women on the net, one feeding off the other. The first is the pressure to create sexual, usually naked pictures, snapped in mirrors, to satisfy the urges of their teenage boyfriends. The second is so-called “Revenge Porn”, in which guys post naked pictures of their ex-girlfriends online. Both are side-effects of an online culture which encourages people to share naked photos of one another as part of flirtation, let alone courtship. Teenage girls unwilling to do this are frequently branded as frigid prudes in the fraught world of secondary school; of course, when teenage romance goes wrong, revenge porn rears its ugly head.
