‘World War Z’ Becomes Brad Pitt’s Highest Grossing Film

‘World War Z’ eating up the box office

June 22, 2013

This weekend’ summer box office race has an unprecedented three films securing over $50 million in a single weekend. Pixar’s “Monster University” is expected to come in first, with $73 million. “Man of Steel,” already a hit after its monstrous opening last week, will come in third with $47 million.
The biggest surprise (and relief), though, is Brad Pitt’s “World War Z,” which is performing way beyond expectations, and will come in second.

World War Z new trailer

March 25, 2013

I just finished reading World War Z, the book on which the film is based. In case you missed it, the novel is written as a series of interviews supposedly published a dozen years after the outbreak of a disease which creates zombies. The faux-interviews from around the world give dozens of distinct perspectives on the zombie apocalypse as it happened through various stages, eventually resulting in humans taking back control of the planet. There is no central character in the book other than the reporter doing the interviews and he is never part of the action.
Obviously many liberties were taken when translating the book to film. Brad Pitt is one of those liberties but not the only one. In the book the zombies are depicted as relatively slow moving creatures oozing black slime. They are strong but it’s possible to outrun them. The movie seems to have turned them into a herd which races through cities like wildebeests on the savannah. All of this to say, the film seems to have little connection to the book and will stand or fall on its own. Here’s the new trailer:

‘The Walking Dead’ video game review

March 5, 2013

By and large, most choice-driven games have followed the same formula, inviting you to make your mark in the world by deciding if you want to be “good” or “bad,” and accepting the binary nature of existence. But in the post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead, where the titular dead walk the decaying earth, the notion of good and bad is somewhat dated. There’s no “right” when right can mean shooting an innocent child before it can turn into a flesh-eating beast, and there’s no “wrong” when wrong can mean stealing the supplies you need to survive from those just as needy as you. The Walking Dead is the story of the choices you can’t live with, and the choices you can, coming together to create an experience as depressing and pessimistic as it is remarkable and memorable.

Obama government buys enough ammo for a 30 year war

February 18, 2013

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has purchased 21.6 million of ammunition in addition to 1.6 billion bullets that have been acquired over the past ten months. The reserves will be enough for 30 years of war, Infowars said.

The information was published on FedBid website, which deals with supplying various products to government agencies. The weapons and ammunition is allegedly to be used in the training center for law enforcement officers in Artesia, New Mexico.
