Pop icon HAJI, the star of several RUSS MEYER cult classics, has died at 67.
Longtime pal Kitten Natvidad made the sad announcement on her Facebook page.
Haji was born as Barbarella Catton in Quebec, Canada in 1946.
At age 14 she began her career as an exotic dancer but after mobving to California, director Russ Meyer discovered her in a topless bar.
Haji first quickened filmgoers’ pulses in Meyer’s Motor Psycho, their first of five collaborations together.
Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is the film for which both Meyer, Haji and the late Tura Santana are most remembered for.
It was landmark cinema event in the lurid world of ADULTS ONLY for its lack of nudity, gorgeous cinematography and a no-hols-barred expose of female violence and sexuality.
Haji played Rosie, the lesbian lover of “balls to the wall” Varla, embodied (literally) by Tura Satana.
In addition to working with Meyer on Supervixens, Good Morning… And Goodbye! and his major foray into big budget Hollywood flicks with his mondo-bizarro Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (written by Roger Ebert!) .
Haji also lit up other 1970s cult classics including Bigfoot, Wham! Bam! Thank You, Spaceman! and Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks.
Haji also swung legit with indie maverick John Cassavettes’ The Killing of a Chinese Bookie with Ben Gazzara.
