Retailer embarrassed after naughty advert blunder

October 18, 2015

Marks and Spencer has been left embarrassed after it emerged that the Christmas decorations for sale on its website were spelling out a swear word.

Shoppers browsing for ornamental letters to go on a Christmas tree were shocked to notice that the arrangement on the web page could be interpreted as an obscene suggestion.

The letter U was on the top line, with F, C and K on the second, followed by M and E on the third line.

Curse of the Kardashians continues

October 18, 2015

Ah, the Kardashians. What is it about these women that has the world salivating, or gagging, depending on who you talk to? Whether you love or hate the Kardashian clan, there’s no denying that they’ve absolutely made their mark in pop culture. From relationships and marriages, to children and business ventures, you probably can’t go a day or two without hearing something about the Kardashians in the media.

Hillary’s brazen lying and lack of self-awareness make her the Amy Schumer of politics

October 18, 2015

Well, this was the week of the late but heavily hyped Democratic debate in which a bunch of old white people mostly touting long-failed 1930s policies were asked softball questions designed to make Hillary look good and the panel civil. Her challengers are complicit in the game, making sure to cover her considerable weaknesses as best they can — dueling with bladeless, blunted weapons. The media’s role in this charade is to pretend that if she could speak in complete sentences without falling off the stage, she won.

Kardashian clan exploiting tragedy for dollars, as usual

October 18, 2015

As former NBA star Lamar Odom clings to life in a Las Vegas hospital, his soon-to-be ex-wife Khloe Kardashian and her clan have done what they do best: make the story all about them.
Before the Kardashians even made it to the hospital, there was no dignity here. Odom was found on Tuesday unconscious and face down in a Nevada brothel, choking on his own mucus, damage to his lungs from crack cocaine and track marks on his arms. He’d spent four days and $75,000 there, in a grim whorehouse that most closely resembles a Marriott.
By all accounts, Odom was extremely depressed and out of it, gorging on KFC and T-bone steaks, three at a time. He had to be transported to the nearest hospital by ambulance; he was too large to be airlifted.
Within hours of Odom’s hospitalization, Khloe, Kris and 7-months-pregnant Kim had hopped on a private plane. According to Radar Online, they had a camera crew in tow. (The 11th season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” filming now, premieres next month.) Caitlyn Jenner was en route.

Big Ed scheme to stop kids from learning literacy skills

October 18, 2015

Defiant teachers yesterday vowed to resist the revival of back-to-basics methods of teaching children to read.

They are urging schools to retain techniques discredited by a Government-backed review instead of adopting the traditional “synthetic phonics” approach.

The National Union of Teachers is preparing to issue rival guidance to schools contradicting a Government order to use phonics.

The back-to-basics approach teaches children to read “from the ground up” by first learning the 44 letter sounds of English and then blending or synthesising them to make words.

But it fell out of favour during the 1970s and 1980s in many Labour-run local authorities amid claims it was too rigid.

Women on Hillary’s campaign staff earned 88 cents for each dollar earned by men

October 18, 2015

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign has consistently paid its female staffers less than it has paid males, according to a Washington Free Beacon analysis of the campaign’s public payroll records.

Fashionista cashionistas enriched by recycling old ideas every six months

Would you pay £880 for a pair of sneakers? At the Frieze art fair in London last week, column inches were abuzz with the fact that many art lovers were wearing trainers by Chanel, in tweed and calfskin, for £705, and Celine’s lambskin sneakers, £700. To cater for this trend there is even a ‘Sneaker Concept’ floor at Harvey Nichols, where £880 plimsolls, by Buscemi, have sold out.

Of course they have, given it’s now acceptable to wear sneakers on the red carpet, and even if you’re getting married. I went to a wedding not long ago where the fashion stylist bride wore McQueen high tops, £560 from Net-a-Porter: the best man’s speech made reference to the fact their vows should have read: ‘For richer, for Net-a-Poorer.’

So, what happened to jeans (Victoria Beckham flares: £310) and tracksuit bottoms (Moncler: £175) has infected the formerly humble, smelly sports shoe (I refuse to call them trainers: what is Tracey Emin, who wore Asics at Frieze, in training for?).
