A reality TV star will get a dose of actual reality Monday when she is hauled into Bronx Criminal Court to face charges stemming from a brawl on the show.
Kelly Hyland, the former star of the Lifetime series “Dance Moms,” has been charged with assault for a catfight last November that was recorded and aired on the show, according to court papers.
During the smackdown, seen on the Feb. 11 episode “Big Trouble in the Big Apple,” Hyland goes berserk on dance instructor Abby Lee Miller backstage at Lehman College.
“Get your finger out of my face!” Hyland screams before slapping, scratching and pulling Miller’s hair in the scuffle.
“She’s crazy,” Miller yells back.
The show follows Miller, an overambitious dance instructor, as she motivates young girls to perform numbers that are sometimes risque. The brawl allegedly boiled over from an ongoing dispute over what role Hyland’s daughter, Brooke, would play.
The teen — in full glamor mode for the competition — sat in silence as her mom brawled with Brooke’s longtime dance teacher.
After Miller called cops, Hyland was arrested and charged with assault and harassment, court records show.
She pleaded not guilty in January and was told to stay away from Miller, according to an order of protection.
Since the altercation, Hyland and her two daughters have been kicked off the show — but the mom is fighting back.
The former Dance Mom, who claims Miller tried to “bite her face” during the altercation, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles and is seeking $5 million in damages, according to TMZ.
She alleges that Miller and the production company, Collins Avenue, defamed her, mistreated her children and violated child labor laws while making the show, the site said.
Hyland also claims Miller once threw a chair at her younger daughter, Paige.
“I was standing up for my kids,” Hyland told ABC News in January. “I’m just not that type of person that would fight with somebody unless I was provoked.”
The current legal battle isn’t the first controversy to surround the reality television program.
In 2012 the show aired an episode called “Topless Showgirls,” where dancers as young as 8 simulated burlesque acts while wearing revealing flesh-colored tops. After criticism, Lifetime pulled the episode.
