10 box office stinkers from 2013

January 27, 2014

As we count down to 2014, it’s easy to look back at 2013 as one of the best years in recent memory for the film industry, with this fall’s slate surely going down as one of the strongest, most consistent outputs of all time. But it wasn’t all good — just like every year, the best movies often serve as a much-needed cleanser for some of the biggest duds.

When it comes to organizing the worst films of the year — and best, for that matter — Rotten Tomatoes remains the champion at distinguishing the winners from the losers and everything in between. But it’s also important to note that the “Tomatometer” is not perfect. Using a cutoff of 60 percent, Rotten Tomatoes chooses which reviews are considered passing or failing if actual scores are not included and, as you can guess, a hard-line pass/fail organization can sometimes mean a high-scoring film may contain many barely passing scores.

8 worst box office bombs

January 27, 2014

As the year comes to a close, 2013 has given us not one, but two epic box office bombs that rank among the top five flops of all-time: Disney’s The Lone Ranger and Universal’s R.I.P.D. Over at Disney, the The Lone Ranger’s box office failure directly led to the end of the studio’s partnership with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and will no doubt lead to increased control over the film’s high-budget outings. At Universal, the only thing keeping studio executives from making similar changes is the fact that the studio had an otherwise record year.

But for all the attention given to The Lone Ranger and R.I.P.D. regarding how they exhibit an out-of-control studio system obsessed with tentpole filmmaking, the truth is that no recent box office failure (besides one) compares to some of the biggest financial disasters in the history of film when adjusted for inflation.

Left Wing loves playing The Knock Out Game

January 27, 2014

It’s no wonder there’s been so little outrage from the Left over the phenomenon known as the Knockout Game.
The Left loves the game and is increasingly expert in knocking out conservative opposition with one swift and lethal blow to the head of any and all who oppose progressivism.
We on the right have seen a rapid succession of punches aimed at taking down everyone and everything conservative. Whether it is potential presidential candidates or conservative organizations like the Tea Party, the aim is the same. Go in from behind in packs and sucker punch the unwitting victims, using governmental entities such as the IRS, the DOJ, or state AGs to deliver the fatal strikes.
It’s clear the end game has a dual purpose: Get potential presidential competitors out of the game and provide distractions from the deep and dangerous scandals afflicting the Obama administration. The attacks against “enemies” like the Tea Party also provide additional and convenient diversions that channel attention away from the disaster that is ObamaCare.
Let’s take a look at just five examples of people and organizations that are on the knockout list

People who drink diet fizzy drinks tend to have a higher BMI

January 27, 2014

Many dieters opt for sugar-free drinks in a bid to shed some excess pounds, but new research suggests this tactic is not effective.

U.S. researchers found that overweight and obese adults who drink diet fizzy drinks consume more calories from food than those who drink regular fizzy drinks.

The researchers, at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, examined national patterns in adult drink consumption and calorie intake.

Dictator Obama exposed

January 27, 2014

The conservative behind “2016: Obama’s America” is under indictment for campaign finance violations but his next doc will open on schedule on July 4, filmmakers say.

The filmmakers behind Dinesh D’Souza’s upcoming doc have vowed to press on while their star defends himself after his indictment on federal charges that he violated campaign finance laws in 2012. On Sunday, they released a trailer for the movie, America, that is set for release on July 4.

America is the follow-up to the surprise hit 2016: Obama’s America, which earned $33 million in 2012 and became the second most popular political documentary in history, behind Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, which earned $119 million in 2004.
In America, D’Souza — who wrote and produced the film — makes the claim that 1960s radical leftism is more or less indistinguishable from current mainstream liberalism, a doctrine that he says preaches the United States is the product of “stealing and plunder” from Native Americans, Mexicans and African-American slaves.
