Attack of the Clothes Horse

November 23, 2011

A University of Derby student had to be cut free by firefighters after being trapped in a clothes horse for more than an hour.

Danielle Morgan said she had been “mucking about” in her flatmate’s bedroom when the accident happened.

Friends and staff at Sir Peter Hilton Court hall of residence tried to free her before calling the fire service.

The 18-year-old said she had been left with bruising to her neck and shoulders but could now laugh about the accident.

Miss Morgan said: “My friends just thought it was hilarious.

“I found it funny at first but after it got taken off I had a panic attack and the ambulance came out.”

Energy company office occupied by Polar Bears

November 23, 2011

A protester who stormed the offices of an energy company dressed as a polar bear has been found not guilty of committing a breach of the peace.

Natasha Smith, 24, was cleared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after Sheriff Roderick MacLeod ruled prosecutors had not proved she acted illegally.

Ms Smith, from Bristol, was in a group of more than 50 Greenpeace activists who raided Cairn Energy’s offices.

The incident occurred at the company’s Edinburgh headquarters in July.

Water pump failure was not a cyber attack

November 23, 2011

The Washington Post is reporting that recent damage to an Illinois water treatment plant was a cyber attack by foreign hackers, “Foreign hackers caused a pump at an Illinois water plant to fail last week, according to a preliminary state report.”
The narrative of the attack is that a Russian-based hacker created minor “glitches” in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) which, according to Krebs on Security, is “designed to monitor and control complex industrial networks.” Apparently, it caused the system to turn on and off, resulting in the burnout of a water pump.
Despite the alarmist title of the article, DHS spokesman Peter Boogaard cautioned “At this time there is no credible corroborated data that indicates a risk to critical infrastructure entities or a threat to public safety.”
