Deputies of the St. Petersburg
Legislative Assembly addressed
to Governor Valentina Matviyenko
with a request to sue US pop
star Madonna for using a
Russian dirty word in a
radio jingle to advertise
the singer’s forthcoming
show in the city,
The Rossiiskaya Gazeta wrote.
In the jingle,
Madonna used the word
‘Ohuenna!’ –
an exclamation which can
be translated into English as
“This is f****** great!”
.
The jingle leaked on
the Russian Internet:
“Ohuenna!
This is Madonna.
Hello!
This is Madonna.
And I hope to see
you on August 2nd on
Palace square Saint-Petersburg.
Don’t miss it!”
the singer said.
The organizers of Madonna’s
show in St. Petersburg
stated that the jingle
leaked online incidentally.
Russian radio stations will
use the edited version,
from which the first word
will be cut.
The word,
which Madonna used,
is an expression of joy,
happiness,
surprise and many other
positive emotions.
It is widely used across
the nation by literally every
single person.
St. Petersburg parliamentarians
believe that Madonna’s
message caused damage
to the business reputation
of Russia’s renowned city.
In addition,
the deputies claim that
the organizers of
the show,
PMI Corporation,
must wire a part of the profit
received from Madonna’s concert
in the city to the budget
of St. Petersburg.
The deputies particularly
said that the organizers
must pay for the use of
the state property –
the city’s iconic Palace Square,
where the show will take place.
Official spokespeople for
PMI Corporation said that
they would wire the funds
to the city budget in
the form of taxes.
Madonna will play
in Russia on August 2.
The Russian stop of her
highly acclaimed Sticky and
Sweet Tour will take
place on St. Petersburg’s
Palace Square.
It will be Madonna’s
second concert in Russia.
She visited the country
for the first time in
2006,
when her Confessions Tour
stopped at Moscow’s
Luzhniki Stadium.
