SIAMESE twins from Iraq,
attached at the chest and
stomach,
have been separated in a
successful operation
carried out in a
Saudi hospital.
“The operation was carried out
without any complication”
on twin brothers Iyad and Zyad,
said the head of the medical team,
Abdullah al-Rabia,
quoted today by state
news agency SPA.
The surgery,
whose costs were covered
by King Abdullah,
was the 20th of its kind to be
carried out successfully in
18 years in the oil-rich
Gulf monarchy, he said.
Dr Rabia said that during their
six months in Riyadh’s King
Abdul Aziz Medical City,
the Iraqi twins had suffered
respiratory problems and been
kept in intensive care on
three separate occasions.
