Oct. 10, 2008 – I think it’s time law enforcement
took a look at the behavior of Gov. Sarah Palin a
nd Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain
for inciting fear, hate and violence.
Palin and McCain are going beyond running a
“negative campaign.”
They’ve launched a rally they hope will attract
the most radical and racist folks into the fold.
So what’s the motive?
McCain has admitted he can’t and won’t continue to
talk about the issues of the economy, jobs and healthcare …
because that’s Obama’s strong suit.
He only scores well in the polls when it
comes to fighting terrorists,
so he’s decided to see if he can link Obama to
domestic terrorism and in the process improve
his political standing.
The only alternative the 72-year-old has now –
with fading popularity and falling poll numbers –
is to create an atmosphere of fear –
not just for voters but for Obama.
.
McCain knows that he and Palin are reaching at straws,
but these are desperate times,
and McCain has decided on desperate measures
to keep his campaign alive.
I wonder how many Americans really think
Obama could be the Democratic nominee
without being fully vetted.
So, clearly, these latest tactics are a form of
intimidation and fear-mongering.
After hearing McCain’s remarks in Waukesha, Wis.,
on Thursday (where he continued to question,
“Who is Obama?”)
I called the FBI and asked that if something
were to happen following one of those incendiary ,
could McCain and or Palin be charged with
“conspiracy” in a threat against Obama?”
Are they crossing a line?
The FBI spokesman told me,
“It would be really hard to tie their
comments to a direct threat,
and that it’s a touchy issue because of the
protection for freedom of speech.”
OK, I said, but “What if one of these folks acted?
Palin and McCain keep implying Obama is hiding
something or that he’s a terrorist.”
.
A hate crime is defined at the federal level by
“a threat or act of violence or a conspiracy
to a threat or act of violence,
to bring harm to someone”
based on their race or religion, he told me.
This week McCain, Gov. Sarah Palin’s race-baiting
has made the crowd so hostile that the media are
starting to report on their level of discomfort at these events.
YouTube is being filled with videos of folks
leaving the Republican events calling Obama “dangerous.”
Today’s Washington Post reports that a crowd
in Waukesha, began shouting “No Obama” and
“Socialist” at the mention of the Illinois senator’s name and with
“boos, middle fingers turned up and thumbs
turned down” as the media moved through the crowd.
.
The Post quoted local Waukesaradio talk show
hosts James T. Harris, saying
“It’s is absolutely vital that you take it to Obama,
that you hit him where it hurts; there’s a soft spot.”
The FBI referred me to the U.S. Justice Department’s
Civil Rights Division to find out if the Republican
campaigns can be deemed culpable?
A spokesman there asked me to send over some
of the incidents I was referencing to him in the press office,
and he would forward them to one of the
attorneys to get me some answers.
I forwarded a few links to articles and video:
he promised to get back to me in the next day or so.
BET.com calls FBI after people at McCain rallies dare call socialist Obama a “socialist”! Some radicals even gave a “thumbs down” sign!!!!
