La Santa Muerte ceremony in Guadalajara

Devotees of Saint Death, or

‘La Santa Muerte’, a cult worshipping

the skeletal figure of death, pray

during a ceremony in Guadalajara,

México, Friday Aug. 22, 2008.

Death is commonly honored

as a part of life in Mexican culture,

such as during November’s

Day of the Dead celebrations,

and does not have the same

morbid stigma as in

other societies.

  1. To celebrate death is to celebrate the primary consequence of sin entering the world – it is an affront to God himself.
