It’s been an exciting Cannes Film Festival, according to the France 24 news agency. What sort of uplifting artistic achievements have been competing for this year’s prize?
Cinema heavyweights Roman Polanski and Jim Jarmusch wrapped up the Cannes Film Festival race Saturday, as speculation raged whether a shockingly explicit lesbian love story could capture a top prize.
The audacious French coming-of-age tale “Blue Is the Warmest Colour” featuring hard-core sex between the lead actresses, remained the talk of the town as the competition ended with two more looks at unconventional couples.
In “Venus in Fur”, Polanski turns the tables on the sadomasochism bible of the same name while Jarmusch tells a rock-and-roll vampire story with “Only Lovers Left Alive”
Well, I wish Jarmusch all the luck in recapturing the vampire story from its sparkly-vampire teenybopper decadence. But it sounds like his film is a bit of a dark horse against the sadomasochism and shockingly explicit lesbian love stories. Let’s hear some more about this “Blue is the Warmest Color” film…
“Blue Is The Warmest Colour” by Abdellatif Kechiche topped critics polls in trade magazines Screen International and Film Francais among the 20 contenders for the Palme d’Or.
The three-hour-long drama about a 15-year-old girl who falls for a French woman tracks their passionate affair and devastating separation.
Sounds like a great film to catch after spending the afternoon at a “Free Kate” rally. Hopefully they allow a bathroom break while this three-hour saga grinds on. And hopefully the bathrooms will be supervised.

May 5, 2013Miley Cyrus has stolen Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli’s crown as the reigning queen of Maxim’s annual Hot 100 list.
The 20-year-old singer – who is engaged to Australian actor Liam Hemsworth – accidentally revealed in a Twitter post on Saturday that she’s been named the magazine’s sexiest woman of the year.
Though her admission comes weeks before the magazine had planned to officially announce the results of the competition, the former Disney star gushed that it is ‘a dream come true’ to top the compilation.

The ex-Corrie beauty beat former co-star Michelle Keegan to be the top Brit in this year’s FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women In The World 2013 list.
But they both lost out to Hollywood beauty Mila Kunis, 29, was voted the globe’s fittest female.
Helen, 22, said of her poll position: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be voted the Sexiest Woman In The UK.
“It’s a lovely confidence boost, especially when there are so many beautiful girls out there. Rosie Webster would definitely be impressed!”
Helen and 25-year-old Michelle, who came fourth, aren’t the only Brits on the hot list this year.
Busty model Kelly Brook, 33, is in fifth position, while Mama Do singer Pixie Lott has claimed the seventh slot.
Also in the top ten are pop stars Rihanna and Cheryl Cole, The Big Bang Theory beauty Kaley Cuoco, Irish model Georgia Salpa and lingerie lovely Kate Upton.

The novelist and provocateur took to his medium of choice — Twitter — to announce that the gay rights organization had “banned” him from entering the premises after learning a guest planned on bringing him as a date.
“As a gay man in a domestic partnership who plans to get married I’m sad to hear I’ve been banned byGLAAD from attending tomorrow’s event,” the American Psycho author wrote. “GLAAD is supposedly ‘furious’ about my tweets. Miss Russia targeted by racist haters
April 15, 2013THE stunning winner of the Miss Russia beauty pagaent has become a shock target of vile racist abuse.
Elmira Abdrazakova was accused of “not being Russian enough” because she comes from one of the counrty’s ethnic minorities.
Elmira, 18, was forced to shut down her Facebook and Twitter accounts after being bombarded with hatred.
The gorgeous brunette’s father is Tatar, a Russian ethnic minority, and she herself was born in Kazakhstan.
One comment on a Russian news website said she would only be considered “a real beauty among sheep”.
But she has now hit back against her online trolls and called the abuse “bizarre”.
She told Sky News: “The nationality question – I don’t really understand it, I don’t understand why men would write to a young girl offensive things about her nationality.
