More than thirty thousand ‘Criminal’ Border Jumpers released in 2014

March 18, 2015

More than 30,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records were released by federal officials last fiscal year — on top of the over 36,000 that were released the previous year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said Wednesday.

The agency, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, said that it had released 30,558 criminal illegals in fiscal 2014. The figure was down from the 36,007 criminals the previous year.

The statistics were first reported by The Washington Times.

Obama operatives failed to sway the Israel election

March 18, 2015

It wasn’t just Israel’s left-wing parties that lost big as part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s dramatic victory yesterday. Team Obama, which pulled as many strings as it could to defeat Netanyahu, was embarrassed.

It had dispatched Jeremy Bird, the architect of the grass-roots and online organizing efforts behind both of Obama’s presidential campaign, to Israel to work the same magic there with a group called Victory 15.

Victory 15 was in turn a close ally of the One Voice Movement — a U.S. tax-exempt organization with a subsidiary in Israel that actively worked against Netanyahu. One Voice apparently used $350,000 in State Department grants to to fund its anti-Netanyahu efforts in direct contravention with U.S. law.

Perhaps you’ve seen it on Twitter: the line from the Australian Daily Telegraph that the subs should have spotted but didn’t – with presumably dire consequences for the author responsible.

Except, as Mark Steyn points out, this isn’t what actually happened.

Senator Joe Manchin only opposes Obama’s amnesty action until the point that opposition would actually mean taking action

March 18, 2015

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin has navigated the changing politics of his home state by crafting an image of an independent-minded, moderate Democrat. Despite his occasional bipartisan bluster, however, he is as reliable a vote for progressives and President Obama as any other Senate Democrat. His public advocacy for the nomination of Loretta Lynch to be Attorney General puts a lie to his well-crafted maverick myth.

Last week, Sen. Manchin joined every other Senate Democrat as a signatory to a letter demanding swift action on the Lynch nomination. Senators from the same party as the President ordinarily support Executive appointments and nominations. That’s simply an exercise of basic party loyalty. One would hope, though, that the loyalty demands of a party would count less when there is a matter of principle at stake.
